The Gray 22-40 is a unique tractor both in its design and function. What sets this tractor apart from the rest is its drum-drive; instead of rear wheels, this tractor has a large drum in place.A New York fruit grower by the name of W. Chandler Knapp created the tractor and the drum-drive system in 1914. The 22-40 was known as the “Canadian Special,†as it was specifically created by the Gray company to cater to the Canadian market. This is because the drum-drive worked extremely well in snowy conditions. It also uses a Wauhesha 4-cylinder gas engine, with 22 horsepower at draw bar and 40 horsepower at the pulley. The 22-40 was built by the Gray Tractor Company for Minneapolis Mo line from 1924 – 1933. The previous owner was G. Parker.
