Description: The Gray 22-40 is a unique tractor both in its design and function. What sets this tractor apart from the rest is its drum-drive; instead of rear wheels, this tractor has a large drum in place. A New York fruit grower by the name of W. Chandler Knapp created the tractor and the drum- drive system in 1914. The 22-40 was known as the “Canadian Special,” as it was specifically created by the Gray company to cater to the Canadian market. This is because the drum-drive worked extremely well in snowy conditions. It also uses a Wauhesha 4-cylinder gas engine, with 22 horsepower at drawbar and 40 horsepower at the pulley. The 22-40 was built by the Gray Tractor Company for Minneapolis Moline from 1924 – 1933. The previous owner was G. Parker.
